Wentbridge Village

Wentbridge is a pretty village in West Yorkshire. It was merely another village along the Great North Road until the construction of an important bridge at Ferrybridge in the 13th Century. This caused a realignment of the road straight through the village and it then became a major stopping place, popular with travellers.
In one of the earliest Robin Hood ballads, the tale of Robin Hood & the Potter, it was here that Little John met up with Robin. Its identity helps to place Robin's activities firmly in the woods of surrounding Barnsdale. This association is indicated by a blue plaque which is displayed on the bridge in the village.
